The new assembly of Delhi has chosen fewer female MLAs than the final assembly. The outgoing assembly in the new assembly has 5 MLAs compared to 8 women MLAs.
Of 699 candidates who contested Delhi assembly election Held on 5 February this year, 96 were women. In the 2020 assembly elections, 76 of 672 candidates were women.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 48 seats, shedding Delhi elections 2025 Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) 22 seats. The results of the assembly elections were announced on 8 February.
The share of young MLAs has also fallen compared to outgoing assembly. In the new assembly, 13 percent of the members are in the age group of 23-40, according to non-profit PRS Legislative Research. In 2020, the number of MLAs in this age group was 23 percent, while in 2015 it was 41 percent.
The PRS analysis also said that the number of more than 70 members has increased from 1 percent to 4 percent in 2020 to 4 percent.
Less ‘criminals’, more billionaires
Among the 70 winning candidates, 31 (44 percent) have declared criminal cases against themselves as per the analysis of the election sentinel, Democratic reform association (Adr). In 2020, 43 (61 percent) MLA declared criminal cases against himself.
The ADR, who analyzed the affidavits submitted by all the 699 candidates contesting the assembly elections, said that the number of candidates winning with serious criminal cases is a matter of concern.
The analysis found that 17 newly-taked candidates were facing serious criminal cases, including murder and crimes against women. In the 2020 election, 37 candidates who won were declared serious criminal cases.
Out of the 70 winning candidates analyzed, 3 are billionaires. In Delhi Assembly Elections 2020, Only 1 MLA was one billionaire, ADR said.
All three rich billionaires are from BJP – Karnell Singh 259.67 crore with Shakur Basti, Manjinder Singh Sirsa 248.85 crore from Rajouri Garden, and with Parvesh Verma 115.63 crore from New Delhi seat.
The total assets of 70 winning candidates are 1,542 crores. Delhi elections are average of assets of candidates per winning in 2024 22.04 crores. Average of property per MLA in Delhi Assembly Elections 2Was 020 14.29 crores.
A party-wise breakdown suggests that 16 out of 48 BJP MLAs and 15 out of 22 MPs of AAP are criminal cases against their names.

According to the analysis, 64 percent of new MPs held a bachelor’s degree or more, while 33 percent declared their educational qualifications between class 5 and class 12.
